The Diocese of Novaliches Social Communications and Media Ministry (SocComm Nova) has launched the #ZUMBAChallenge videos as a part of its advocacy for the Year of the Youth, which is to help address the increasing number of cases on depression and suicide amongst the Youth.
The #ZUMBAChallenge was packaged with the 3rd SocComm Nova Communications Camp as a teaser to invite participants. Its long-term goal is actually for the 1st SocComm Nova Pocketfilm Festival’s advocacy.
Thus, the #ZUMBAChallenge is what SocComm Nova offers to help the Youth fight depression and thoughts on suicide. Exercise has been known as a cure for many illnesses, one of which is clinical depression. Dancing, a form of exercise, has been used by many organizations to help improve overall health, including mental health.
Our ZUMBA Challenge, after all, literally means “dance to surpass obstacles and trials” in Filipino:
- Z – Zumayaw
- U – Upang
- M – Malampasan ang
- B – Balakid
- A – At pighati
Although the #ZUMBAChallenge was first thrown to Parish SocComm Teams, the Ministry hopes there will be others who will take up this challenge not only online but more importantly offline.
